A notice about an article titled "Transitioning to the Mobility Assistive Equipment National Coverage Determination" was sent out via Palmetto GBA's listserv, and the article posted to the DMERC General Information and Coverage sections on the Web site on June 9. That article neglected to note that the previous National Coverage Determination on Power Operated Vehicles has been deleted. In particular, the requirement that a POV be ordered by a specialist in physical medicine, orthopedic surgery, neurology, or rheumatology is eliminated effective for claims with dates of service on or after May 5, 2005. As a result of this clarification, the instructions for completion of the POV CMN have changed. The following instructions apply for claims with dates of service on or after May 5, 2005.
